Adobe GoLive enters End Of Life, Dreamweaver Continues The Dream

Effective Monday, April 28, 2008 Adobe announced that it has ceased development and sales of Adobe GoLive. The company promised that GoLive users will still be supported with online tutorials and migration assistance to the Dreamweaver. Registered GoLive users were offered a $200 upgrade to switch to Dreamweaver. That's make only 2 major competitors left; The Homestead & The Microsoft FrontPage.

Initially GoLive was the Web authoring tool that Adobe created to compete with Macromedia Dreamweaver in which it acquired in the late 2005. The latest version of Adobe GoLive is version 9, which is not integrated as part of Adobe Creative Suite 3. The Dreamweaver will replace it as the Adobe Web authoring tool. Like Dreamweaver, GoLive was originated from the 1999 acquisition of a German company called GoLive Systems, Inc. Back then it was known as the GoLive CyberStudio product. Adobe GoLive supports drag-and-drop of native Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator files using "Smart Objects". It also enables users to transfer and publish content directly from within the application, and capable to selectively excluding files from uploading.
